A little settlement called Kitulgala is perched atop hills that descend to the Kelani River's raging waves. The small town, which is infused with the many beauties of its surroundings, is split in half by the road that winds its way up the central hill country. From Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Ratnapura, and Colombo, it is easily accessible. Kithulgala became a must-see in any Sri Lanka vacation package after the discovery of prehistoric man fossils in nearby Beli Lena caves, as well as the filming of "Bridge over River Kwai," in which David Lean chose the river nearby to chronicle contemporary man's cruelty. The excavations in Beli Lena, which is regarded as Sri Lanka's largest cave, have uncovered the skeletal remains of the prehistoric "Balangoda man" (Homo sapiens Balangodensis), thought to be more than 32,000 years old.
The activity that draws those looking for adventure is whitewater rafting. The river's picturesque central region features ten level 2 and 3 rapids. They are divided by a section of the river that is quietly flowing. The top section is more difficult and is recommended for those with more experience. It is a charming little town and village that you can explore at your leisure while taking pleasure in every second of this Eden Resort in Sri Lanka. Kitulgala is one of many such locations on a Sri Lanka tour where you can relax while riding a bike or hiking.
