Beruwela

As the earliest Muslim community in Sri Lanka, Beruwala is notable for serving as a reminder of Sri Lanka's multicultural and pluralistic past. It is one of the largest and busiest vacation resort areas on the islands, located close to 60 kilometers from the capital, Colombo. It is a picture-perfect vacation spot with long stretches of golden beach bordered on one side by coconut trees and the wide Indian Ocean on the other

The Kosgoda Turtle Hatchery further down the coast and shopping in the island's capital, Colombo, are both popular with tourists, as are gems and ayurvedic massages. The white minarets of the Kechimalai Mosque stand out among the village of Beruwela's architectural features. This mosque, located on the outskirts of town, is the island's oldest mosque on record and well worth a visit.
