The lovely mountain resort of Bandarawela is situated in Sri Lanka's central highlands. Because of its higher elevation, it has a colder climate all year. This town has become a hub for eco-tourism thanks to its connections to a royal and colonial past combined with a rich forestation. The history of this region dates back to the reign of the great Sinhalese King Valagamba, who regrouped and fell back to battle the Chola invaders of India in the Dhowa region.
Due to the extensive tea plantations and excellent infrastructure, the city quickly expanded during the British colonial era. Since the majority of the buildings were constructed using British architectural influences, many characteristics from this colonial era may still be recognized. This town is popular with tourists because of its pleasant environment and fascinating history.
